Hello my Lovelies…
I have been planning on doing this post for a while now but between the launch of the new online version of the Sol Lifestyle Magazine and all of my other 1001 jobs and positions, it has taken me a minute to get to it 😜 But finally, here it is:) It is Party Time…
I love a good party. Whether it is a champagne and oysters kinda party with all the glitz and glam that comes with it, or a more casual braai /barbecue party with close friends and family, I am all about it. To me, it’s a time to relax and enjoy the important things in life..good food, drink and company.
This is exactly what my last “white party” was all about. I had it at my house in beautiful Cape Town. The theme (as the name suggests), was all white. So everything from the decor, candles, and of course, outfits were /had to be white (with hints of gold/glitter /shimmer).
Of course, unsurprisingly, one of the most important aspects to any party for us girls, be it attending or throwing one, is the outfit. And I am no different in this regard. I plan ahead, talking to my designer(s), visiting every boutique, paging through magazines &&&, looking for inspiration for the perfect outfit for the day.
This time round, though, it didn’t require any of that, and choosing an outfit was a no brainer as I was fortunate enough to be introduced to the fabulous fashion label/brand, Denimchick (USA) & Iv been smitten ever since. ❤️
Denimchick is bold, edgy, exuding attitude and flair. For me, I love that the brand screams sexy, confidence and women empowerment. Created by fabulous founder, Colleen Huie, since 2007, who also designs the Denimchick range(s), specially in/from Miami, it is 1 of my new favorite brands. I loved reading about Denimchicks “spiritual” essence which shines through in their line of tees called “the conscious fashionista” (& being “the corporate fashionista” , this was right up my street). 🙂
There are so many things to love about their range(s), from their dresses, tees, jeans && but this dress that I chose to wear for the white party, was love at first sight. I loved the flow of it, the almost regal feel you get when wearing this piece, while also having a fun, flirty, sexy style to it. I am happy to report that the dress was not only a hit with me but the guests as well. 🙂 With the compliments flowing, my party was off to a pretty good start👌 I paired the outfit with the most drool worthy pair of Steve Madden heels. The tassels on these, together with the specks of bling, made this the perfect choice to finish the entire ensemble off.
Now on to the food. What’s a party without good food right ? To be more specific…desserts 😛 I have an insatiable appetite for sweets. It is truly shameful the amount of sweets I could consume, without the discipline that I fortunately have 🙈 While I (try &) steer clear of sweets in everyday life, when I throw a party, I go all out. And this time was no different. While being a white Party, the dessert table I had set up, was filled with all things decadent and sweet in every color imaginable 🙂 It even earned me the nickname, Miss Wonka (after willy Wonka), for my constant supply of sweets to my friends/guests etc, which, I suppose, is not the worst thing to be called 😉
When throwing a party, please my loves, there really is no need to feel pressured into making and doing every single thing yourself. There are stores and products that will be just as great without us having to take time, energy etc making each one of them. Having said that, me being me, I do, of course, make some /many of the (sweet) offerings at my parties. One of my favorite things to make, especially when I have a dessert bar/table, is candy. To me, nothing says love and appreciation (& lets party), quite like candy. It really does fill me with childlike excitement and pleasure:)
For the white party, one of the candies that I made, which was an absolute sensation with my guests, was the chocolate fudge candy. My Beauties, believe me when I say, this candy is just a mouthful of heavenly creamy chocolatey happiness. A soft toffee centre is covered by a decadent, rich, dark chocolate outside, to make the perfect candy . Everyone at the party really couldn’t believe that they were homemade toffees and more especially, that it was as simple as it is. These were such a hit, so delicious and moreish, I had to add the recipe to this post for you guys to try.
Ok, let’s get our Willy Wonka Aprons on and make some toffee….
Chocolate Fudge Candy
1/4tsp course salt
1/2C golden syrup
1C cream1tsp vanilla extract.
100g semi sweet choc / 50g dark + 50g milk choc (melted)
line a pan with grease proof paper. Set aside.
In a saucepan, combine butter, salt, syrup, salt and 1/2 of the cream. Warm over low heat till melted. Stir occasionally. Turn heat up to medium to allow mixture to simmer. Allow mixture to simmer (without stirring ), till it reaches about 120 degrees celcius. Pour in the other half of cream. Gently stir cream in once to combine. Bring mixture to simmer again.
Take mixture off heat and add vanilla. Pour into pan. Cool and set at room temperature. Once cooled, cut into squares, dips squares (either the entire square or just the top), into melted chocolate. Sprinkle top of each of these with a little course sea salt.
Honestly, how easy is that. ? I wrapped each square in wax wrap, you can also use cellophane wrap. Together with the rest of the candy, cupcakes etc on the dessert table, there was something for everyone (including beautiful fruit skewers with sugar free melted choc sauce to dip into, for the much healthier people;)), and a sweet night was had by all🍡🍫🍭🍬
Cheers to Us:
The last , but equally important element to a good party, is good drinks👏 , and did we have good drinks at this one 😻 I always try and cater to all of my guests (needs), and that means having a variety of drinks available, cocktails, non alcoholic options, cognac, wine, water, soft drinks and oh yes bubbly (but of course ). Being conscious, constantly, of a healthier way of living, I also try and cater for my guests who feel the same and can also enjoy themselves without feeling uncomfortable or dissatisfied.
In this regard, I try and provide healthier meal options, desserts (fruit skewers, sugar free alternatives etc), and yes, drinks as well. I am so excited to share 2 of my favorite go to “skinny” cocktail recipes. These were such a hit at previous parties, that I have now started to make enough for the “healthy” guests as well as for the rest of us, as I have found that everyone, regardless of their dietary needs, tuck into these and love them. All under 150 cals, it is a guilt free party for all 🍹🍸🍷🍾
First up is the “Social Butterfly ” (hmm, guess who this is named after 😜😄🙈). It’s so refreshing, luxurious and delicious. Iv made these in both alcoholic and non alcoholic version and they are both divine:)
“The Social Butterfly
1 Scoop of your favorite sorbet (I used Woolworths mixed berry sorbet)
150ml of your fave Rose Sparkling Wine
starwberry or raspberry to garnish
Place a scoop of the sorbet in glass, add a few raspberries over. Fill glass with sparkling wine. Add a little extra flair by topping it off or the side of the glass with a strawberry or raspberry.
“Coco Pine Passion”
30ml Pineapple Vita Coco
a spritz of lime juice
mint to garnish
combine all ingredients together with ice. Shake. Pour out into cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
How fabulous do these sound? And trust me, they taste just as good (if not better).
I hope you love these ideas and try some of them at your own party/get together. Send me a few pictures if u do, would love to share in your special days, as you do in mine 💛
Have an amazing week. Cheers to fabulous parties and to all of you ..
